3RD ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON BIOETHICS

Who Will Decide?

Contemporary Issues in Bioethics

Focus on Stem Cell Research

We draw on nationally recognized speakers from our local community and throughout the country to share with us their experiences and perspectives in this two-day event on May 12 and 13.

The kick-off event on Thursday evening, May 12, features two keynote addresses given by William Hurlbut, M.D. and Lois Jovanovic, M.D.  Dr. Hurlbut is a physician and professor of bioethics in the Program in Human Biology at Stanford University, who also serves on the President’s Council on Bioethics. (Dr. Hurlbut’s presentation is funded in part by Hospice of Santa Barbara.)  Dr. Jovanovic is the Director and Chief Scientific Officer of Sansum Medical Research Institute and is internationally recognized for her diabetes research.  Their presentations will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Thornton Auditorium, Wake Center.

The conference concludes on Friday, May 13, at Cottage Hospital.  The Friday program will give participants an opportunity to reflect and expand upon the information learned from our keynote speakers.  Stephen Hosea, M.D. will begin the program by summarizing and elaborating on the issues presented the evening before.  Dr. Hosea’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from a variety of perspectives to discuss political and economic, research, medical and personal issues.
