Cameroon: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

This symposium centers Cameroon, a unitary multi-party republic comprised of four geographic regions and numerous ethnic groups, with a developing market economy based on petroleum, agriculture, and a growing services sector. It brings together Cameroonian scholars and researchers to discuss literature, history, culture, and the dynamics of Cameroon’s current crisis and that of surrounding regions.

 

The Cameroon Anglophone crisis has registered more than 5,000 deaths since 2016. The impact of the crisis on the environment, schools, women and children is nightmarish. Thus, there is a need for a platform to give a  comprehensive review of the state--before, during and after the war--from an academic perspective.

 

Elisabeth N.M Ayuk-Etang is an IIE-SRF Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Associate Professor of African Studies at University of Buea, Cameroon. She is an Indigenous African Feminist, with a PhD in Black Women’s Writings and Ecofeminism from the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon. She has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Her research interests include Indigenous knowledge, cultural studies, environmental humanities, and ecofeminism. She is a recipient of several awards, amongst which are the African Women Development Fund (2019), University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar (2015), and Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund (2022).
